The history of "KARAT"

«KARAT» was founded in 1934.

1934

It was the first cheese production in the Soviet Union.

1941

During the Second World War the Factory produced processed cheese "New" to feed the wounded and children.

1950

The company opened secret laboratory. Its goal was to make recipes and technologies for the new varieties of cheese. The factory started to produce sweet cheeses (lemon, orange, etc.), special cheeses enriched with salts and milk sugar in addition to traditional flavors.

1960

Well-known and even legendary in Soviet Union flavors - "Druzhba", "Volna" and "Leto" were developed in the experimental laboratory under the direction of M. Kuleshova. The recipe of new products, as well as today, consisted of natural ingredients: high-quality cheese, butter, cream, dried milk and spices. Processed cheese "Druzhba" did not have an ideological basis, but it united the whole country.

1964

All children love "Chocolate" cheese! In 1965 we made the recipe of the favorite dessert cheese.

1970

A new factory building was built in Moscow (14 building 1, Rustaveli Street)

1979

The factory began to produce new product - cottage cheese " Domashny"

2002-2008

A large-scale reconstruction of producing area and stowage was carried out. Chill boxes were re-equipped, and new modern automated boiler-house was put into operation. Also, production line of "slices" (processed cheese that is sliced and individually wrapped) was put into operation. "KARAT" got an international certificate that legalizes the sale of its products in EU countries.

"KARAT" got the right to supply cheese for astronauts.

2015

“KARAT” rebranded processed cheeses for the first time in 81 years. The packaging design and technology were upgraded. The project got awards at the most prestigious festivals in the world - RED DOT AWARDS, European Design Awards and EPICA.

2019

"KARAT" started to produce modern flavors of processed cheese: "Creamy", "With mushrooms", "With ham" and "Coral" with real shrimps.

2020 - 2021

“KARAT” ranks second place in the processed cheese market in Russia. New products were presented: dessert cheeses "KARAT Dessert", a new brand of curdy cheese «Violette Light», new soup blocks. “KARAT” received the honorary status of the Industrial Complex of Moscow and produced a billion batch of Druzhba cheese.
